Research:
Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-Dasa
During a period of nearly 25 years, I have become
acquainted with quite a few predictive methods from different schools of Hindu
astrology described in many thousands of slokas. While some of these methods
appealed very strongly to me, other methods happened to be more or less
rejected by me - at least for a period of time.
However, by contemplating and thinking about this
process, I became aware that I have been forming certain opinions and even
sometimes objections regarding some of the slokas, which I had studied. Finally
these opinions and objections have made me develop my special SSS-formulary
regarding Hindu predictive methods.
The SSS-formulary stands for Sound, Simple and
Satisfactory. An astrological method must be sound, simple and satisfactory, as
only then we should believe in it. Please let me explain this a little further:
1. It must be Sound.
There should be no room for confusion, doubts and
contradictions, and the method should be based on genuine, logical and well
understood principles of the Hindu astrological tradition, and thereby be
appealing to astrologers of sound judgment and powers of discrimination.
2. It must be Simple.
The truth always displays a certain simplicity. If a
method appears to be unnecessarily complicated or simply too ridiculous, or if
there are too many rules of exceptions involved, then perhaps something is
wrong or misunderstood about the basic principles...
3. It must be Satisfactory.
Theory and practice must go hand in hand. The method
should work well on the practical horoscopes and the results must be
satisfactory - also if the method is used by a number of different Vedic
astrologers.
It is only fair to mention that I consider the Vimsottari
Dasa to be a perfect example of an astrological method which is sound,
simple and satisfactory according to this SSS-formulary, even though its deeper
rationale is very difficult to grasp, and even though a number of its higher
applications are still well guarded secrets, kept safe in the treasure house of
certain ancient Sanskrit-texts.
Anyway, my reason for mentioning my SSS-formulary is
that I want to show exactly how four small verses from Jaimini-Sutras
can be interpreted according to this SSS-formulary. The importance of these
four sutras is in my opinion beyond imagination if in the hands of the right
kind of astrologer.
The four Sutras
The first four sutras of Part 2, Chapter 3 of
Jaimini-Sutras are a description of how to calculate Navamsa-Dasa and Sthira-Dasa.
These four small sutras are all that we have got, but being so pregnant with
deep meaning, I believe they allow us to carefully dig out the complete
explanation on how to calculate Navamsa-Dasa and Sthira-Dasa. Please let me
explain the details about this.
Jamini-Sutras, Adhyaya 2, Pada 3
Sutra 1: Vishametadadirnavamamsah.
If the birth falls in an odd sign, the Navamsa Dasas
commence from it.
Sutra 2: Anyathadarsadihi.
In the even signs, the Navamsa Dasas commence from the
Abhimukha Rasis.
Sutra 3: Sasinandapavakahkramadabdahsthiradasayam.
In the Sthira or fixed sign Dasa, the movable sign
Dasa will be 7, the fixed Dasa will be 8 years and the Dasa of the common Rasi
will extend to 9 years.
Sutra 4: Brahmadiresha.
The Sthira Dasa commences from the Rasi occupied by
Brahma.
MY NOTES:
I believe these four sutras as a whole give a kind of
common explanation covering BOTH the Navamsa-Dasa and the Sthira-Dasa. Also I
think we are being told very precisely about some similarities and some differences
between these two unique dasa systems.
Differences
1) If we take the differences first, then it seems
logical to assume that Navamsa-Dasa is somehow based on Navamsa while Sthira
dasa is based on Rasi (signs).
2) It also seems logical to assume that the
dasa-periods in the Navamsa-dasas are of equal length, since nothing else has
been mentioned, while it is obvious that the periods in Sthira-Dasa should
follow the special pattern of 7, 8 and 9 years in case of cardinal, fixed and
common signs.
Some people believe that the period of each
Navamsa-Dasa is 9 years, but I don't think so. If this was true then there
would be no difference between Shoola-Dasas and Navamsa-Dasa, since each
Shoola-dasa has got 9 years. I think the very word Navamsa has a double meaning
here by suggesting the dividing of not only the Rashi but also its
Shoola-dasa-period by 9.
Therefore I believe the period of each Navamsa-dasa to
be of ONE YEAR only. Following this method Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-Dasa work
together like the two pointers of a Clock, where Sthira-Dasa shows the broader
timing and Navamsa-Dasa the precise timing of an event.
Please also please see the following statement from Dr.
B. V. Raman’s book on Jaimini-Astrology regarding Navamsa-Dasa:
"My grandfather late prof. B.
Suryanarain Rao used to tell me that Chara Dasa and Trikonadasa could be
applied to all horoscopes and that all important human events could be timed
with sufficient accuracy with the aid of Navamsa Dasa".
Similarities
1) It is clear
from sutra 1 and 2 that for these two dasa systems it makes a difference if the
starting dasa is an odd sign or an even sign. And it seems logical that this is
related to the savya and apasavya movement in case of odd and even signs,
meaning that for the odd signs the order of the dasas is direct while for the
even sign the order is in opposite direction or backwards. This is like a
golden rule of Jaimini’s Rasi Dasas, so it goes for BOTH Sthira-Dasa and
Navamsa-Dasa. Please also see the following sutra:
(Adh. 2, pada 4, Sutra 31:)
Swavaishamyeyathaswankramavyuthkramau.
"If the Karaka occupies an odd sign, then proceed
for the subsequent Dasas in the regular order, but when he is in an even sign,
then go backwards for the Rasi Dasas".
2) According to the English translation of sutra 4 the
Sthira-Dasa starts from Brahma. But the original Sanskrit text does not
specifically mention Sthira-Dasa. It only says Brahmadiresha, meaning
something like "it starts from Brahma". It does not say anything about
WHICH dasa-system actually starts from the Brahma-planet!
I therefore believe it is logical to assume that BOTH
Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-Dasa starts from Brahma. But here we have to remember
the difference that Navamsa-Dasa is based on Navamsa while Sthira-Dasa is based
on Rashi. What does that mean? Well, it seems logical to assume that
Sthira-Dasa starts from the SIGN occupied by Brahma, whereas Navamsa-Dasa
starts from the NAVAMSA occupied by Brahma. A number of practical experiments
of mine have confirmed this to be true.
Obviously the Brahma-planet is of the out most
importance in the calculation of both Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-Dasa. Therefore,
we will now have to find out exactly how to identify Brahma. What does Jaimini
Sutras have to say about this?
Researching Brahma
Some explanations about how to identify Brahma can be
found in Part 2, Chapter 1 of the Jaimini Sutras. Unfortunately, the
definition of Brahma has to some extent been mixed together with the definition
of Maheswara, which is considered to be a kind of Maraka or
death-inflicting planet in Jaimini-astrology.
There seem to be minor errors in some of the sutras
and in their English translation causing confusion and contradictions. We
therefore have to discriminate in a very careful and systematic manner from
sutra 44 up to sutra 53 as to which information is related to Brahma and what
is related to Maheswara. I will therefore give my personal notes in case of
each sutra.
Jaimini-Sutras, Adhyaya 2, Pada 1
Sutra 44: Swabhavesomaheswaraha.
The lord of 8th house from Atmakaraka goes under the
name of Maheswara.
MY NOTES:
The planet having the highest number of degrees is
called Atmakaraka and considered to be the strongest of the planets. Obviously
the 8th-lord from him is nominated for Maheswara.
Sutra 45: Swochheswabheripubhavesapranee.
If the lord of the 8th from Atmakaraka is exalted or
is in his own house, then the stronger of the two, viz. the lords of the 8th
and 12th from the Karaka will also go under the name of
Maheswara.
MY NOTES:
In case the 8th-lord is exalted or in own sign, then
the stronger between the 8th-lord and 12th-lord becomes Maheswara. In
Jaimini-astrology the stronger planet is always the one having more degrees.
Please also see the following sutra:
(Adh. 2, Pada 3, sutra 11) Agrayattoviseshath.
"According to the Jaimini Sutras the planet which
gets the highest number of degrees among others will become the most
powerful".
Sutra 46: Patabhyamyogeswasyatayorvarogetataha.
If Atmakaraka has conjunction with Rahu or Kethu, or
if the 8th from Atmakaraka has conjunction with Rahu or Kethu, then the 6th
planet counting regularly from the Sun will become Maheswara.
MY NOTES:
Obviously this is a kind of exception-rule related to
Maheswara, but it is unclear if it means the lord of the 6th weekday from
Sunday or if it means the planet occupying or ruling the 6th house from the Sun
or perhaps even from Rahu or Ketu. I have seen different opinions regarding
this with different Jaimini-scholars.
Sutra 47: Prabhubhavavaireesapranee
pitrulabhapranyanucharovishamastho brahma.
Find out which is the stronger of the two Rasis, Lagna
and Saptama or 7th. Then find out which of the lords of the 6th, 8th and 12th
from it is stronger, and if he occupies an odd sign in the Parswa Rasis from
the stronger of Lagna or Saptama (7th), he will be named as the Brahma planet.
MY NOTES:
Always when we are being asked to find the strongest
between the Lagna and the 7th house, the answer is very simple. In odd signs it
is the Lagna, and in the even signs it is the 7th house. This is because the
odd signs are considered to be stronger than the even ones in
Jaimini-astrology. Please observe the following sutra:
(Adh. 4, Pada 2, sutra 4) Ojayugmayopranibalam.
"The odd sign is stronger than the even according
to its virtue".
Following the same principle the Niryana Shoola
Dasa is counted from the Lagna in case of odd signs and from the 7th house
in case of even signs according to one of the parampara or oral
Jaimini-traditions.
Then we are informed that the strongest of the lords
of the 6th, 8th and 12th house from Lagna or the 7th become Brahma. The
strongest of them is the one having more degrees (please see my notes to sutra
45).
Some scholars are of the opinion that the strongest
planet will be the one in conjunction with more planets. But I don't think so,
since the conjunctions of more planets are only considered to be a secondary
source of strength according to Jaimini. Also please observe the following
sutra:
(Adh. 2, Pada 3, sutra 7) Saumyebhuyasa.
"If other sources of strength are equal, then the
conjunction of a larger number of planets gives greater strength".
Then finally we are also told that Brahma should
occupy "an odd sign in the Parswa Rasis". But this doesn’t make
sense. As far as I know, Parswa Rashis mean the six signs above the
horizon. If Brahma has to be in an odd sign above the horizon, then half of the
horoscopes in the world would be completely without Brahma. I don't think so.
It seems much more likely to me that this part of the sutra is somewhat
defective, and therefore simply to be ignored.
Sutra 48: Brahmanisanaupatayorvatataha.
If Sani, Rahu or Kethu becomes Brahma, the 6th planet
from him will be designated as Brahma in which case the other three will not
have the Brahma power.
MY NOTES:
Here we are told that Saturn, Rahu and Ketu can NEVER
become Brahma, which I consider to be a very important piece of information.
Why are Rahu and Ketu being mentioned? Well, some
scholars are of the opinion that Rahu and Ketu are actually co-rulers of
Aquarius and Scorpio in Jaimini-astrology, but I have never seen any sutra from
Jaimini supporting this. Not even in the "missing" 3rd and 4th parts
of Jaimini-Sutras (Adhyaya. 3 & 4) which I have got in Mr. Susil Kumar
Kar's rare translation, published by Raman Publications in 1955, and given
to me as a photocopy by an old Jaimini-scholar in New Delhi back in 1990.
Anyway, the English translation of this present sutra
48 seems to indicate that Jaimini was actually rejecting Rahu and Ketu as
co-rulers of Aquarius and Scorpio - at least in connection to Brahma.
However, it is mentioned in Parasara Hora that
Rahu and Ketu are co-rulers of Aquarius and Scorpio, but I think we should be
very careful not to mix together Parasara and Jaimini. They are two very
different schools of thoughts, even though they may look similar to a certain
extent.
In the present sutra the information that the 6th
planet from him will be designated as Brahma seems to be somehow a mix up with
sutra 46 about Maheswara, and therefore I believe it should be ignored.
Sutra 49: Bahunamyogeswajateeyaha.
If many get the powers of Brahma (say three or four
planets at a time), then that planet becomes Brahma who is next in degree to Atmakaraka.
MY NOTES:
This is confusing. Since Brahma will be the strongest
among the 6th, 8th and 12th lord from Lagna or the 7th house after excluding
Saturn, we will always get 2-3 planets nominated as candidates for Brahma. I
such case we are told that the planet next in degrees to Atmakaraka becomes
Brahma. But this is completely ridiculous, since the planet next in degrees
to Atmakaraka is the Amatyakaraka, and it need not necessarily be the 6th, 8th
or 12th-lord. The only logical interpretation of this sloka must be that out of
the 2-3 nominated candidates the one having more degrees will become Brahma.
Sutra 50: Rahuyogevipareetam.
When Rahu also gets Brahmatwa, then the conditions
will be reversed.
MY NOTES:
According to sutra 48, Rahu can NEVER become Brahma.
Yet this sloka says: Rahuyogevipareetam, meaning something like
"opposite or reverse in case of combination with Rahu". But nothing
has been mentioned in the sutra itself about Brahma - except in the English
translation. I therefore believe this sloka is related only to Maheswara,
indicating that in connection to Maheswara the degrees of Rahu should be
counted in the opposite direction from the end of the sign, perhaps since Rahu
is always retrograde.
Sutra 51: Brahmaswabhavesobhavasthaha.
The lord of the 8th from Atmakaraka as also the planet
who occupies that house becomes Brahma.
MY NOTES:
Here we are really being sent on a wild goose chase. I
think once again somebody has been mixing together Brahma and Maheswara.
Perhaps by a simple mistake somebody has written Brahma instead of Maheswara by
error while copying the original manuscript.
By carefully comparing the sutras regarding Brahma
with those of Maheswara, it can be observed that Maheswara is defined
exclusively from Atmakaraka while Brahma is defined from Lagna itself.
Also please observe that the content of sutra 53
becomes self-contradictive if sutra 51 is supposed to define Brahma. My
objection is like this: If longevity goes from Brahma to Mahesware, then
Brahma and Maheswara would hardly be defined as the very same planet by
Jaimini, would they?
Sutra 52: Vivadebalee.
Between the two planets the lord of the 8th from
Atmakaraka and the planet who joins the 8th, the stronger of the two becomes
Brahma.
MY NOTES:
Brahma is not at all mentioned here, as the original
sloka only says: Vivadebalee. I think this is once again additional
information regarding Maheswara, which makes very good sense, since it would be
new information regarding Maheswara.
Sutra 53: Brahmano
yavanmaheswararkshadasantamayuhu.
The longevity extends through the Rasis commencing
from Brahma and counting upto the Rasi containing Maheswara.
MY NOTES:
This is a general rule about longevity, but there seem
to be an element of truth in it, which I will show in a practical example later
on.
Conclusion
By now, based on the above observations, it is finally
possible to formulate a few sound and simple rules for easy reference on how to
identify the Brahma-planet and how to calculate the Sthira-Dasa and the
Navamsa-Dasa.
I this connection I would like to give a few good
examples of these calculations, and how to make predictions from these two
unique dasa-systems.
Calculating Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-Dasa
Following the deductions already given regarding the
Brahma-planet and the two dasa-systems we are now finally able to conclude the
following sound, simple and easy rules:
Brahma
1) In the odd signs, after excluding Saturn, Rahu and
Ketu, then out of the 6th-, 8th- or 12th-lords from the Ascendant, the
one having more degrees, minutes and seconds in the sign occupied by him will
become Brahma.
2) In the even signs, after excluding Saturn, Rahu and
Ketu, then out of the 6th-, 8th- or 12th-lords from the seventh house,
the one having more degrees, minutes and seconds in the sign occupied by him
will become Brahma.
Sthira-Dasa
3) Sthira-Dasa starts from the Rasi (sign)
occupied by Brahma and the dasa-periods of the signs will be 7, 8 or 9 years in
case of cardinal, fixed and common signs, respectively. If Brahma occupies an
odd sign the order of the Sthira-dasas will be direct, while in an even sign
the order will be reverse or backwards.
Navamsa-Dasa
4) Navamsa-Dasa starts from the navamsa
occupied by Brahma and the dasa-periods will be one year for each sign. If
Brahma occupies an odd navamsa the order of the Navamsa-dasas will be direct,
while in an even navamsa the order will be reverse or backwards.

Finding Brahma
For the Gemini-Ascendant, being an odd sign, Brahma is
to be found from the Ascendant itself, and the nominated candidates for Brahma
will be the 6th-lord, Mars, the 8th-lord, Saturn and the 12th-lord, Venus. But
Saturn will have to be excluded, since Saturn can NEVER become Brahma according
to Jaimini. The remaining two candidates will then be Mars and Venus. The
degrees of Mars are only 02:55 while the degrees of Venus are 23:22. Therefore
Venus will become Brahma in this case.
Calculating Sthira-Dasa
Since the Brahma-planet, Venus is in Aries rashi,
which is an odd sign, the counting of the Sthira-Dasas will be direct in this
case and starting from Aries:
1. Ari (7 years) from
age of 0 to 7
2. Tau (8 years) from
age of 7 to 15
3. Gem (9 years) from
age of 15 to 24
4. Can (7 years) from
age of 24 to 31
5. Leo (8 years) from
age of 31 to 39
6. Vir (9 years) from
age of 39 to 48
7. Lib (7 years) from
age of 48 to 55

age of 55 to 63

years) from age of 72 to 79
11. Aqu (8
years) from age of 79 to 85
12. Psc (9
years) from age of 85 to 96
Calculating Navamsa-Dasa
The Brahma-planet, Venus is placed at 23:22 Aries
which is in Scorpio navamsa. Since Scorpio is an even sign the counting must be
in the reverse or backwards order from Scorpio, and we always have to give only
one year for each sign. This is how the Navamsa-Dasa runs in this case:
1. Sco (1
year) age of 0 12 24 36 48 60 72 84
2. Lib (1
year) age of 1 13 25 37 49 61 73
3. Vir (1
year) age of 2 14 26 38 50 62 74
4. Leo (1
year) age of 3 15 27 39 51 63 75
5. Can (1

8. Ari (1
year) age of 7 19 31 43 55 67 79
9. Psc (1
year) age of 8 20 32 44 56 68 80
10. Aqu (1 year) age
of
9 21 33 45 57 69 81
11. Cap (1 year) age
of 10 22 34 46 58 70 82
12. Sgt (1 year) age
of 11 23 35 47 59 71 83
Predicting from Sthira-Dasa and
Navamsa-Dasa
It is my clear impression that all kinds of events,
both the good and the bad ones, can be predicted equally well from these two
unique dasa systems.
It is also my impression that Sthira-dasa should be
used mostly for the natal chart while the Navamsa-Dasa works equally well in
the natal chart and in the navamsa. In many cases some missing details will
show up if Navamsa-Dasa is judged in both the natal chart and the Navamsa. Also the transits seem to work very well
when combined with Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-dasa.
Jaimini has given some general rules regarding how to
predict death in his sutras, and I like to show how these rules apply to the
example-horoscope. It is however my opinion that astrologers should be very
cautious and restrain from giving predictions about death. In most cases the
prediction of death is simply unwanted and it may also cause unnecessary fear
and damage in the life of people. Personally I NEVER give any predictions about
death. I think one should leave such questions safely in the hands of God.
Anyway, please understand that taking up the subject
of death here is not because I am a very sinister person, which I am not. But
Jaimini's rules about how to predict death are specific and therefore serving
the purpose of illustrating the usefulness of these two dasa systems correctly
extremely well.
Timing death from Sthira-Dasa
The female person in this case died at the premature
age of 46 while running Virgo-dasa (age of 39 to 48) according to Sthira-Dasa.
The running dasa or the dasa under consideration is
called Dwara-rashi in Jaimini-astrology. Please observe the following
details:
1) The 1st-lord from Dwara-rashi, Mercury, is in the
8th house with three other planets.
2) Two natural malefics, Mars and Saturn, are in
Kendras from the Dwara-rashi.
3) According to Jaimini-aspects the Maheswara-planet,
Mars, is aspecting the Dwara-rashi.
4) Also the two Rudra-planets (the 2nd and
8th-lords) being Moon and Saturn are both aspecting the Dwara-rashi. (Both the
Maheswara and the Rudra-planets are considered to be a kind of Marakas or
death-inflicting planets in Jaimini-astrology.)
5) The Dwara-rashi is in 4th house from Janma-lagna
and therefore in trine to the 8th house. Please observe the following sutra
from the "missing" second half of Jaimini Sutras:
(Adh. 3, Pada 2, Sutra 26) Rogarkshatrikonadasabde
"Death is to be judged during the dasa periods of
the rasis at trikona (1, 5, 9) of the eight".
Timing death from Navamsa-Dasa
In Navamsa-Dasa she was running Capricorn-dasa when
she died at the age of 46. Capricorn is therefore the Dwara-rashi in
both the natal chart and the navamsa.
Please observe that in the natal chart the 1st-lord,
Saturn, from Dwara-rashi is in the 12th house in Sagittarius aspected by both
the Maheswara (Mars) and in conjunction with one of the two Rudras (Moon). Saturn himself is the other
Rudra-planet.
Further the Dwara-rashi is in the 8th house from
Janma-lagna and also in a cardinal sign. Please observe the following two
sutras from the second half of Jaimini Sutras:
(Adh. 3, Pada 2, Sutra 27) Roganavamsadasabhyamnidhanam
"Death is to be judged in the Navamsa Dasa of the
8th rasi".
(Adh. 3, Pada 2, Sutra 34)
Charanavamsadasayamnidhanam
"Generally, the native dies during the period of
a movable [cardinal] sign in the Navamsa dasa".
Marriage and Children (Calculations)
I like to give another case-story to illustrate how
predictions about marriage and childbirth can be given by combining Sthira-Dasa
and Navamsa-Dasa.
There is no reason to calculate any sub-periods for
Sthira-Dasa, since the periods in Navamsa-Dasa are of only one year each.
Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-Dasa are two dasa-systems
always working together as a natural team. It is very much like the two
pointers in a clock, where one of them is for the broader timings (hours) while
the other one is for the precise timing (minutes). Therefore I never use one of
them without the other.
Normally, I also use to calculate Chara-Dasa
and its sub-periods, to get a good and qualified second opinion, but to secure
the clear understanding of this I like to confine myself exclusively to
Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-Dasa in this case.

(Karakamsha: Aquarius, Darakaraka:

In this case Brahma (Venus) is in Capricorn rashi, an even
sign, and therefore we count the dasa-periods backwards from Capricorn giving
7, 8, and 9 years in case of cardinal, fixed and common signs respectively:
Capricorn from 0 upto
7 years
Sagittarius from 7 upto 16 years
Scorpio from 16 upto 24 years
Libra from 24 upto 31 years
Navamsa-Dasa
Navamsa-Dasa starts from the navamsa occupied by
Brahma and the dasa periods will always be only one year for each sign. If
Brahma occupies an odd navamsa the order of the Navamsa-dasas will be direct,
while in an even navamsa the order will be backwards.
Brahma is in Cancer-Navamsa, being an even navamsa.
Therefore we have to count backwards by giving one year for each sign upto the
age of 25, where this man was married and had his firstborn child. At the age
of 25 he was running Gemini.
Marriage and Children (Predictive
methods)
Since this man was married and had his firstborn child
at the age of 25, we will now investigate his chart by using the combined
Sthira Dasa and Navamsa Dasa.
Sthira Dasa
While predicting with Sthira-Dasa I like to work on
two levels. The first level is the horoscope itself from the Lagna etc.
In this case the person Is born in the
Gemini-Ascendant and the Dwara-Dasa, meaning the running Sthira Dasa, from the
age of 24 to 31 will be Libra.
Please note that Libra is occupied by Jupiter the lord
of the 7th house, and thereby the indicater of marriage. At the same time Libra
is the 5th house from Gemini-Ascendant, and thereby an indicator of children.
In Jaimini-astrology there are some special rules
about children. I have seen these rules both in the Jaimini-Sutras itself
and also in a book by Pt. V. Suryanarayana Murthy called Jataka Narayaneeyam
& Yogavali Khandam from 1987, which is based mostly on
Jaimini-astrology. These rules are very peculiar, but I have found them to work
very well:
1) Bahuputra grahas: Sun, Jupiter and Rahu (children
producing planets)
2) Ekaputra grahas: Moon (Giver of only one son -
meaning mostly daughters)
3) Anapathya grahas: Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Mars (Not
children producing)
Please observe that Libra, being the Dwara-rashi or
running Dasa, is occupied by Jupiter and Rahu, both of which are Bahuputra
grahas, meaning children producing planets.
The second level of judgement will be by using the
Dwara-Rashi or running Dasa as if it was the Ascendant.
From Libra the 7th-lord, Mars, is in conjunction with
the Atmakaraka, Saturn, (significator of own self) which is a combination
of marriage. Further the 5th-lord Saturn is in conjunction with the Putrakaraka,
Mars, which is a combination of childbirth.
Someone may however argue that since both Mars and
Saturn are Anapathya grahas, meaning NOT children producing, then how
can they give children? Well, please observe that the Moon in Aries is
aspecting both Mars and Saturn by Jaimini-aspects. The Moon is an Ekaputra
graha, meaning a giver of only one son - and mostly daughters.
As a matter of fact, this man actually got two
daughters and no sons during the Sthira-Dasa of Libra between the age of 24 and
31.
Navamsa-Dasa
At the age of 25 this man was running the Navamsa-Dasa
of Gemini. Please observe that Gemini
is ruled by Mercury, being the DaraKaraka in this chart. This is in my
opinion a very good indication of marriage.
From the Dwara-rashi, Gemini, please also not that the
1st-lord Mercury who is also the Dara-karaka, is actually placed in the 7th
house itself, and thereby also indicating marriage.
From Karakamsha, which is Aquarius, the running
dasa, Gemini, is actually the 5th house and thereby it is indicating
childbirth. I have often seen that Karakamsha has a special significance in
connection to Navamsa-Dasa. Perhaps because they are both based on the Navamsa-position
of a planet.
Please also observe that in the 5th house from the
Dwara-Rashi, Gemini, we have both Jupiter and Rahu, who are considered to be Bahuputra
grahas in Jaimini, meaning they are children producing planets.
Transits
The following observation from Dr. B. V. Raman's book
"Studies in Jaimini Astrology" from 1950 may be of interest in
connection to transits:
Quote:
"There is no mention of either
planetary Dasas or Gochara, though nevertheless there are suggestions in works
like Jathaka Rajeeya and Vanchanatheeya which are mainly based on Jaimini that
Rasi Dasa influences are affected by transits".
I am also of the opinion that transits can be used
profitably from the running Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-Dasa.
In 1983 when these things happened, Saturn was
transiting in Libra, which is the 5th house from the running Navamsa-Dasa. Also
by transiting Libra Saturn is activating the two Bahuputra grahas, Jupiter and Rahu who are actually aspecting the 5th house from Libra, the
running Sthira-Dasa, by Jaimini-aspects.
Marriage was also indicated by this Saturn-transit,
since the 7th-lord from the running Navamsa-dasa, Jupiter, is actually placed
in Libra.
Jupiter was transiting his Mars/Saturn conjunction in
Scorpio, which is strongly indicating
both the marriage and the childbirth when observed from the Running
Sthira-Dasa, Libra, as I have already explained earlier.
Time and Brahma
Somebody may wonder why time is being measured from
the Brahma-planet in Jaimini's Sthira-Dasa and Navamsa-Dasa. I think there is a
very good reason for this, since many of the ancient Hindu astrologers believed
Brahma to be of the very nature of time itself.
In other words: God is Time and Time is God!
Please see the following information from a 16th
century Nadi-text:
Quote:
"The word Kaala means time, denoted
by the three benefactors [Brahma, Wishnu and Shiva]. Brahma is of the nature of
Kaala [time], i.e. he is himself Kaala. The knowledge of Kaala ever leads to
Punya [merits]. He who knows of this is the knower of tatva, is a sage and an
appellation of Brahma".
